Natasha and her husband Garry set up the Clydebank-based roofing company 12 years ago and have established an excellent reputation in the UK construction sector. They recruited the company's first Modern Apprentice earlier this year and plan to recruit another very soon. "Paige Robertson joined the company as our Business Administration apprentice and our next apprentice will be based in the manufacturing area of the business," explained Natasha. "I think young workers bring a dynamism and enthusiasm to the workplace. They bring their own skills while learning new ones. For example, Paige has opened up the social media aspect of the business which has been very worthwhile. This is something we hadn't been using to its full effect before she joined us."
Natasha believes the practical and theory side of apprenticeship are the key to the programme's success. "Paige has just achieved her ECDL Level 5 qualification which is tremendous. It was done at a pace which suited her and which fitted in with business need, which is the essential element for any employer," she said.
Ashton Building Systems has received a package of local advisory support and financial assistance from Business Gateway and West Dunbartonshire Council's Business Support Team which has been an important factor in helping the business to grow successfully.
